So I tried out the iTunes6 tv Show download offering. It is a concept I had been waiting to hit for a while now. I think 1.99 price tag may be a little higher than I would care for but not to bad. The show I downloaded and watched last weeks episode of Lost. The show of course was excellent. I mean this is one of the best shows on tv after all. The performance of the program is solid in this respect. I have dsl and it took about 15 minutes to download the show. Buying it was somewhat seemless. Now playing was another story. I should point out I am using a 4 year old computer with a 900 megahertz processor and half a gig of memory. I have a video card with only 64 megs of memory on it. So playing it initially was jerky. I closed out things and tried again and it was still a little jerky. What ended up doing was closing iTunes entirely and playing it with quicktime. This went much better. Simply put if you have an old out of date machine this will not run easily for you. Once they get the show selection higher though this will be an excellent service actually.

Awesome! I've missed the last few episodes of Lost, and I have an iTunes gift cert I've been meaning to use...

Re: lost

I think this kind of service may eventually change how we watch tv. Imagine instead of paying a cable bill you only pay for the shows you want to watch.

And in other news...the bandwidth of Alcoa dropped by 39%.

Interesting...

So they're having you PAY for a TV show that was aired over the open airwaves?

Hrm... Not so sure I agree. I can get the latest episodes through Bittorrent and all I do is if I miss an EP, I DL it, watch it then delete it.

I can't see paying $1.99/ep honestly - Though I would buy it on DVD when Season 2 comes out.

I guess we're going away from the era of "Tape it and watch it later" to a "Pay for it if you miss the free showing". not sure I like that.

Re: Interesting...

I think the point is the networks i trying to present the legal pay option before going after the "illegal" bittorrent option. Trust me i use the internet as my tivo to. I was exploring their offering though as we will see more of it in the future. I dont mind paying for my entertainment as long as i get what I am paying for. It was after all no ads. Also you can download all of season one for 34.95 which is fifteen bucks off the cheapest price i have seen on the dvd's. it is not a finished thing but I believe this is a first step towards a new model of how shows are produced and distributed.
