So the update.

I am in Cary NC. It is right next to Raleigh and the Research Triangle. The town itself...well I am still learning my way around but it is a pretty town. The zoning laws are such that the buildings all pretty much look kind of the same. It is all brick facing and signage that is nowhere near as obnoxious as what one might be used to in other places. It is a very clean and well kept lawns. Cary is a comfortable 1950's tv residential neighborhood. If I saw Ozzie and Hariet walk by I would not find it odd.

My apartment is also appropriately nice. I have lived in apartment complexes over the years and invariably they can produce some seedier feel to them. It happens. This complex though, is just as clean and friendly as you might expect from the rest of the town. I drive past crowds of kids waiting for the bus in the morning. My only problem is that I have suffered from feeling like I am on vacation for a little bit but I am shaking it. This is where I live. I have internet which proves that right?

The job.

So I started at Icarus Studios this week and I have to say it was about what I expected. I am in QA which in the basic means I play games all day and fill out reports on bugs. I have signed NDA's so I can tell you everything but I am working on more than their primary product, Fallen Earth. Icarus has a laid back environment socially but you also pretty much have to motivate yourself. In a call center your manager will watch you metrics and constantly telling you what to do. In this sort of environment you are expected to be self motivating. In a lot of ways I am working harder at the company than I have in years. It is all hard mental work of course, but it also very very satisfying. I look forward to work everyday. I like the folks I work with as many of them are old and good friends.

Life here is a work in progress. My apartment has no furniture. I have fallen off the wagon on workout and diet. I am about to go work out tonight as I need to get back on that horse. I have to admit I am looking for the next shoe to drop. It is force of habit. I need to get a North Carolina license and get the car registered and this is stuff I am working on this coming week. I am starting to write again as things settle some. I will be doing some recording tonight for some podcast projects. I am in other words trying to get back in the groove.

I made it here based on the kindness and generosity of friends and family members. I have not forgotten this and will not forget. Let me say I am happier than I have been in a long time and all the help I got made that possible.

I will have more later but there is the update.
I am not much of a cook but I tried my first attempt at making a pork roast in the crock pot with potatoes, onions, and carrots. it turned out okay. For something odd though I spiced it with cinnamon, ginger, and a little nutmeg. the meat was maybe not as tender as i would have liked but the taste was great. You should try it some time.
