my thoughts on the new president

We have a new president. He is a geek president, He has called on many with hope and yes he is our first black president. There is history in that. That is not why I think he is great though. As Helen Keller once put it "There is no king who has not had a slave among his ancestors, and no slave who has not had a king among his." I think he is great at the end of the day because he seems to believe that we can do something. He brings a sense we can change the world a little. If you don't agree with his politics that is fine. One of the great things about our country is we don't have to agree. We are sort of built on the notion we can politely disagree and still be a people and still be friends. Even if you don't care for his politics I hope your finding something good in all of this.

One last thought that occurred to me today.

It is the great joy of the world that there is change. In change and growth we prove we are better than history says we can be. Glorious.

And now back to watching the winter wonderland outside my window.

While it is good to be optimistic and hopeful. It concerns me that there appears to be a level of expectation that is overdone. We have a new president with a desire to strengthen the country and some very different ideas on the way things could be. Some of his ideas will be embraced quickly by the majority and they will go through. Some of his ideas will be fought against every single step of the way and may be defeated or enacted and fail (just like every other president) President Obama has alot of things going for and against his goals and it will require time to see how they all pan out.

This is true and is always true. But it is refreshing to see someone who believes we can do something rather than make plans like everything is inevitable.

I will agree with that :)

Well, to be honest, the Democrats have Congress and the presidency right now.... Obama is in a better position to effect change than we will likely see again in our lifetime.

I'm not saying he's going to be able to fulfill all of his campaign promises, or even (considering his lack or experience) get too many balls rolling, but you have to admit that he's sitting pretty right about now.

Change is good!

I think it is safer to say change can be good.

As Helen Keller once put it "There is no king who has not had a slave among his ancestors, and no slave who has not had a king among his."

are you sure that quote is acurate? shouldnt it have been more along the lines of "mammmooooofffeefppphhhh!"
