So a friend posted this link and i was amused/sickened by this. This list "of the most harmful books" was compiled by a group of conservatives. Aparently these books are concidered harmful in of themselves. Frankly unless the books leap up and kicked somones ass I dont see how a book can count as harmful in of it's self no matter the ideas in it.

I totally undertsand feeling outrage at these morons, but I also had to laugh at them as I scrolled through the list. ....gods but I love to hate people. That's right, teaching kids thinking skills is bad. they might start getting ideas! And women thinking they might get to do anything besides cook and clean is blasphemy!... *rolls eyes* Ah...the happy warm feeling I get inside whenever people are blatantly stupid and I can feel justified in despising them....

In the interest of compassion and open-mindedness I am trying to figure out what the heck the criteria for this list might have been. Anyone who feels threatened by "Silent Spring" must be leading a deeply unhappy life in some way.

Someone on another discussion suggested the compiling of a "liberal" list of bad books, but I find the idea somehow offensive.

My thoughts exactly. As much as i find hitler offensive, and nazis in general, I wouldn't be like them and ban their books for the "harmful notions" . Even if you despise their notions then at least you will be able to know what those notions are.

Well yeah. at least their so blantantly dumb as to be amusing.

I was laughing until I found the Unsafe at any Speed in the honorable mentions. How, precisely, would a book that basically says "seat belts are good" be dangerous? "The Nazis loved Nietzsche" is a cheap shot. The Nazis loved Preston Bush too.

I do find it funny that Marx made the list twice. I've just ordered a Tickle Me Freud doll for the store and I wish I could send one to each person who worked on compiling this list.

I'm sure they meant dangerous in a projectile sense. . . . I mean, Mein Kampf is huge. For, you know, a book-sized projectile.

Oops, that's Prescott Bush. I should get his name right before I call him a Nazi.

Get out of my head! I was thinking of making my own list and including the Oxford English DIctionary - if it fell on your head it could cause concussion or even a skull fracture.
