this day in history....

1799 During Napoleon Bonaparte's Egyptian campaign, a soldier discovers a black bassalt slab inscribed with ancient writing near Rosetta, a town 35 miles north of Alexandria. The stone contained passages writen in Greek, Egyptian hieroglyphics, and Egyptian demotic. The greek passage noted that the scripts were all of identical meaning. The Rosetta Stone thus held the key to solving the riddle of hieroglyphics.

I have seen the stone and it is big.
