Okay first off this weekend was my distract my self from melancoly weekend. It was the 5th aniversary of my fathers death and I have been in an unpleasant mood all week. I may have been short with people and unresponsive. Overall i was feeling anti social. I decided this weekend i was going to do my best to be social and not think abouts dads death. i went to play cam changeling and mage saturday. They were fun. I had less fun with changeling cause it was mass combat thing and I feel mass combat in a parlor larp is always a mistake. but the story stuff of it was solid. The mage game was fun. I like playing characters like that. If you want to know what kind of guy he is think Alexander Zanatos from gargoyles or Lex Luthor from smallville. thuroughly smarmy evil and hard to peg down as ever doing evil in a way where he is caught doing.
today i hung out with Wayferny and ikara fox. They are cool people and i enjoyed my discussion concerning evolution and human technology. I later ran my Dawning Star game. It was a session where the heroes lost. A combination of missed roles and bad coices and a really clever and evil villain took away some of the toys the pc's had earned. The idea was supposed to lead them to some other story elements down the road but I may have pissed people off out of character by how it played out. Sometimes you do the story the way you see it and you dont carry the players with you and it makes people unhappy. It was not my intention and I may have dropped the ball. i am sad about that. I hope they stick around to finish where the story is going.
Oh well over all the weekend was not bad. I still missed my dad terribly and regret so much but I managed to distract myself with the company of friends.

I had one chance to see if the "Shadow Monkeys" were indeed security forces and legitimate. I rolled a 19 I have a plus 9 in knowledge streetwise. A 28 on a knowledge roll should be enough to figure out pretty much anything because who really puts skill points into knowledge skills late into the game? I also have a background in lawenforcement. If anyone in the group had a chance to know that these guys weren't legit it was me. I could have only rolled one higher. Which means I had basically no chance to actually figure these people out. I was also given no chance to determine that the email I sent was authentic. Basically I feel that I did what I should have done to find out whether these people were who they said they were and just couldn't actually have that info because you didn't want me to have it.
Stealing money in a cashless environment is absolutely pointless. The only way it would even work is if they could immediatly extract the money into some form of hard currency which they cannot do. Which means for the money to be useful it would have to stay in the same electronic system that the rest of the money is in. Are you saying they can't track wire transfers after the fact? In a system that is wholly controlled by a bank, even if it is hacked, once control was restored and their systems were back they could track where the balance was sent, crash the account it was sent to and completely reimburse whoever was stolen from. It's only data, it's not like they actually have physical money to not have enough of. There is no reason for a bank to only insure accounts to 100,000 credits or whatever they use. Its all electronic data and even if that data is changed, if it is changed erroneously or by a party that had no right to change it then why wouldn't it just be changed back? This of course having nothing to do with the fact that a wealth score is not based on cash but on total value. 8 of my wealth score had been recently placed in my accounts. The rest of it would have been invested in my security company or the stock market or something else. I'm pretty sure the doctor would be heavily invested in a pharmecutical company of some sort. Mikio might have his money in a hundred things or he might have had it just sitting somewhere. Point is how do you steal money that even the owner of said money cannot liquidate? That whole part of the thing makes no sense to me.
I don't like the GM rolling for me. It not only takes away my feeling that I am playing the character but it also takes away my feeling of failure and makes me feel betrayed. I didn't fail any rolls but I was penalized for failing. Though I know it doesn't actually make sense I still feel that way and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. We were also not given the option of spending action points. Thats what they are for, to suceed when we failed just because we're the heros. We didn't get the chance to be the heroes in this game, the bad guys were the heroes.

So yeah theres my rant. I hope people don't get pissed off at me or by it, but I felt like it would be better to say what I felt about the game than to just sit on things. A lot of my reaction is just my fault and I know that, I'm strange about games sometimes. Sorry to be difficult.

as to the hiest of your money in a computer based economy the folks who controll the funds. But even in todays security concious world banks routinely get their system circumvented. Dawning star is less paranoid than 20th century earth and in someways they were not looking for that to happen. As to your monay being distibuted to money market accounts or the like you never gave me any indication that was your intention or modus operandi as you had never mentioned before they stole your money.
as to the rolling for the pc's, well that was a choice I made because i wanted the surprise to be genuine when you guys found things out. if you are talking to people I dont want you to have to roll a sence motive on every conversation. I also dont want to have to make you suspicious of a character when i say yeah go ahead give me a sence motive on this one. It changes how people think even if they dont want it to.
action points primarily are for the cinematic aint it cool moments. I am sorry i left you feeling like you were not a hero. That was not the point. You guys pissed off possibly the most dangerous single woman on the planet and she sent her best after you for it. They came at you at angle you were not ready for. Combat wise you guys are gods. This was not a combat hit though this was a world class hiest by world class people against world class people.

There were a lot of things I didn't tell you about my character. I didn't tell you that I like butter on my toast or that my sister is a graphic design artist. Had you asked I would have told you those things. I did not know that you needed to know because you never told me. I did tell you that I had a security company though that I ran, so it would kind of make sense that I had some money in it. Bank actually don't get their systems circumvented all the time or people would stop putting their money in banks. When was the last large scale bank heist? Especially electronically. Even if Dawning Star isn't as security concious they don't have any cash. What are they going to do? Steal the money and put it in this other account and have it sit there? So 30 seconds after we report the theft the bank has tracked transfers from our accounts and crashed the account that the money was sent to and given us back our money. I mean banks will do that now. Check cards that you have no liability if it is stolen. That because it's all electronic.
Actually combat wise we are not gods. We aren't even very good at combat. 2 of us are. The rest of us are specifically designed for this type of thing. If this was a world class heist where are Dawning Star's world class people? Where is the bank security, where is the law enforcement community, where is the army, where is the security of the city or any justice that is stands for? Well you got robbed and kidnapped and nearly blown up and we didn't actually do anything to help or stop it. Hmm thats too bad, suck it up.
Sorry don't feel like a hero at all.
