Have you ever stopped to watch the mountains? I do from time to time. I will stop and watch the mountains. I will observe them for signs of change. I wait for them to share their wisdom with me. I wait but sadly they are more patient than I.

I find myself wondering what it would be like to be as patient as a mountain, to wait eons for the land to change around me, to see the fire fly lights of peoples lives flare brightly for a moment then pass into darkness.

But were I a mountain I would miss the songs and laughter. There is no laughter of mountains. They do not feel the wind or sing the songs. They simply and patiently watch the world change. They will wait and watch me for a while as well.

Have you never heard the song of the mountains?

I've always thought that some mountains were more inclined to laughter than others.

And mountains do so sing.

I have heard the wind and the water sing on the mountains. They always dance and the frolic. They sing songs and laugh at their still and constant cousins. They shape and turn the mountain as the mount in constant form shapes their flow. To me a mountain is stillness and forever. The wind is more the jester of the world capering and whirling away. The water can sing from whispers to mighty roaring arias. All the while the mountain sits silent.

I have heard no mountains laugh. I have heard tale sometimes, thankfully only sometimes a mountain will roar and howl. Occasionally they will groan due to the pains time and its brothers and sisters inflict on the mountain. But I have never heard a mountain laugh.
