So not surprisingly I am an Audible subscriber. I love a good audiobook and listen to them when I am driving along with the numerous podcasts. I get a free audiobook a month from Audible and I get discounts on the books in their library. I recently downloaded I, Jedi by Michael Stackpole. I had forgotten how much I enjoy the star wars novels and their audiobooks. The star wars universe is a fun playground to begin with. Sadly not all of the writers who wrote in it are stellar, but most are pretty good. The audiobooks for them are great as they have full music as well as sound effects in many cases. They are usually a good listen with excellent voices doing the narration.

So here is my thing. Audible has a fairly complete library of the star wars audio collection. I am thinking of listening to all of the Expanded Universe titles I have not read over the next year. I will finish the New Jedi order and go from there I think. But first I return to I, Jedi. Does anyone have any favorites in the expanded universe novels?

Anything by Tim Zahn.

I also like some of the books on Boba Fett, mostly the Dark Horse comic collections.

Yeah I read the initial thrawn trilogy. Good stuff. I have not read his later additions and I should. Michael Stackpole's work on the xwing series also enjoyable on the sort of pulp adventure level.

It's been a while since I've read them, but, in my youth, I liked the series that has "Grand Admiral Thrawn" in it. It's a trilogy but I can't remember the name of the series. I also remember liking I, Jedi, the X-wing books, and Tales from Jabba the Hutt's Palace. The Courtship of Princess Leia was enjoyable to me as well, but you'd probably dismiss it as "too mushy". The Jedi Academy Trillogy is ok, too, and I, Jedi is much more fun to read in light of reading it first. I disliked many of the later written books.

those are all ones I have read and enjoyed, even the courtship of princess leia. I found the notion of 3po finding a noble heritage for Han Solo to funny.

I, Jedi is really the best of the expanded universe books, but I always had a soft spot for the Tim Zahn books as well as the Kevin J. Anderson books. Try the Jedi Academy trilogy: Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, and Champions of the Force. Also good is Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry.

Wikipedia, the source for all things nerdy, has a list of all the Star Wars audio books, and several of them listed are full cast audio dramas.

I stopped reading Star Wars books around the time of the big war with the Yuzon Vong or however you spell it.

I read some of the Jedi Academy, the Jedi Search, shadows of the empire, and i got into some of the new jedi order stuff but stopped about a third of the way through.

yeah i kind of lost interest in them as well. I am going to slogg through them though. They were not terrible just not as good. I have been told it pays off towards the end. I think one of my problems is that they are much darker than some other series in star wars. Star wars is a setting you can go too dark.

Yeah, when I read Star Wars I want mostly happy swashbuckling adventure. I dont like it much darker than Empire Strikes Back. Revenge of the Sith was almost too dark.

The Han Solo Trilogy (fairly old), Splinter of the Mind's Eye (also fairly old), and the Young Han Solo Trilogy were excellent... I was also quite fond of the Tales from/of... short story collections (though Boba's tale in one of the books has been retconned...)

Speaking of audible, honey - did I forget to tell you what an incredible voice YOU have?! I must have...my apologies!

Sorry I don't have any Star Wars books to recommend but I wanted to let you know how wonderful I thought your reading of my little tidbit was. I must figure out how to download it so I can keep it forever and ever.

You got the tone and feeling perfect. :) Hmmm...makes me happy inside!

I am glad you liked it. I had fun recording it. If you want to download it I can email it to you if you would like.
