Tabula Rasa is better than WoW, to me at least. It's faster paced and the feel of a grind is lessened, if for no other reason than combat is more fun. Also, you don't have to wait long until you can do an instance...can start doing them safely at level 6 and the tutorial gets you to level 4. Oh, and there are very few quests that are turned in at control points (the only bases that get attacked by the Bane).
The complaint about choosing the look of your starting armor is valid, though...my Sapper looked a lot cooler in the starter armor than she did in the Mech armor I had to get later.
It doesn't compare to DDO though. That game has less of a grind (except in certain circumstances) than most anything else I've seen. In fact, unless you're farming a quest for a specific item or something, there really isn't a grind there at all.
