Okay i am settling in, thinking serio9usly about going to bed, my contacts are out and I am sitting in the living room floor going through some things on the coffe table when I feel something cold move on my skin. at first I think maybe a bug. Eww! I move to slap it away and find a snake flying from my hand. A small black banded snake. I about shit myself and scramble. I am not usually bothered by snakes, but one does not find them cosher when they are unexpectedly CRAWLING ON YOU!!. I run back to the bathroom to put the contacts in and i come back and see the snake sitting there curled up ready to strike at something. I come into the computer room to look the damn thing up before I touch it( a useless exercise i cant find listings by description) and when i return to the living room the little visitor is gone.

I was planning on cleaning the living room tommorrow anyway but this does put a new spin on things.

Anyone know what a black snake with bands on it is?

Well that will get your attention quick.

horizontal or vertical banding? how thin was it?

be assured, snakes, unless they are hunters, do not naturally wish to strike or eat at you. it's a defensive reaction. so the next time you see it--don't freak out. approch carefully with gloves on with a big bucket and trap it under there for awhile. think one of the buckets you can find at home depot.

Well first off i know the bit about snakes not naturally wanting to strike humans. And I am fairly certain this is some sort of very young non poisonous snake. it is just remarkiably disconcerting to suddenly have a snake on you out of no where. As far as it goes the snake is small enough that a bucket would be over kill, one of my larger drinking cups might be enough to carry it to the great out doors.

Sounds exciting, but not dangerous in any way. Put the snake under your house so it will eat any mice you may have, or at least it will once it gets big enough. I was going to relate my own recent snake incident, but it turned into a post all it's own. You can read it as soon as I've posted.

On a totally unrelated side note - It occurs to me that one of your strong points, at least in my opinion, is that you help to turn my mind on - cause me to think about things I wouldn't normally reflect on too much. In this case, it's just a little snake, but it occurred to me that you are the catalyst for new thought more often than most other people I know. Thanks.

Probably the coolest thing anyone has ever said to me.

Thanks
