I have discovered I am a convenience eater. Which is to say i eat what is easiest to get to. What this means is I need to keep well stocked on the healthy choices or I end up going for the less good. Still I keep it below goal.

Learning to cook healthily is a Good Thing. I didn't think you liked cheese Krystals all that much. Surprisingly enough, if you are going to eat a biscuit in the morning, it is probably less calorific to eat and egg or sausage biscuit. Anything breaded can really pile on the calories.

Convenience eater ...

... you and me both! Probably explains our physique (I believe you and I are, how shall I put this, at least slightly above our ideal weights (grin!))

I've been ill for the last couple of weeks, and the only upside is that since I've had a couple of days when I couldn't taste what I was eating, it meant I wasn't eating as much ... however I did have too much high-cal/low-val food around so my snacking hasn't always been as good as it could be (plus fresh fruit and veg go rotten quickly while cookies and chocolate could survive for months (but don't unless hidden!))

So I'm trying to make sure that I shop regularly for fruit and vegetables and just accept that I'll probably throw half of them away, but at least they are there when I need them so that's an investment I *have* to make ...

... last night I had some leftover takeaway indian food, not quite enough for a meal, so I chopped up half an onion, some mushrooms and half a red pepper and quickly stir-fried them with a little turmeric and garlic powder and boiled up some brown rice, and putting those all together made a filling meal.

Good luck with the eating, and keep up the great work with the food diary.

You might try a Frugal Gourmet kind of trick and go on a cooking binge on the weekends. Spend a day making a good winter stew that you won't get sick of for a good long while. (Kale is in season right now. It holds up great in stew and soup, and is very yummy.) Then you'll have some leftovers designed to be lefotvers in the fridge and you'll have an option even more convenient than the Krystals.

I know you're a chili hound from way back - try making it true Texas style, with just meat and spice, no beans. Braise a lean cut of meat like a London Broil for a few hours in Natural Goodness chicken broth from Swanson's. Shred it with a fork whe it's falling apart. Then let it cool in the pan juices.

When you want to make it chili, just add your chili spice and go. Purists don't even use tomatoes. And crank the fire to the max, and have a lot of water on hand. Might do the trick nicely. If nothing else, it'll provide a new and exciting way to sweat off the calories...
