To my comic reading pals, I have question. What was your first comic book? For me I am having a hard time remembering. It was either a Captain America comic, Rom the Space Knight, or Xmen. At least those are the oldest I can remember. The first clear story I remember was the Morlocks story in the Uncanny Xmen. That and dad had a coffee table reprinting of the first appearance of The Batman which I remember reading several times. I am not sure how old I was when I begane getting serious into comics. Grandma took me to my first comic shop in Clinton TN where I bought the second issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not long after I remember dad took me to a comic shop in Cleveland TN. I saw an issue of the Crow on the shelf and several other indy comics.
I was just sitting here thinking about comics and how I loved them over the years. To my generation and probably other generations before me these were our myths. I can't tell you often I sat around with friends over the years talking about favorite superhero stories or who could beat who. I still love the thrill of opening an issue I have been waiting for to see what happens next. Will Iron Fist beat the monster who wants to kill him and eat his power? Will the skrull's kill someone before the heroes inevitably beat them?
My stories have gods and men, demons, and men in armor. My comics have ray guns and magic, lightening and thunder, beasts and giants. Heroes are strong and weak in all the right and interesting ways. Villains are dark and terrible. They are epics told in sequential art and when the story is done I close the book and turn to the next adventure.
Yes I do read other things. I am not the english scholar of some of my friends but I am by no means a man to turn away from a good book. I can loose my self in a novel or poetry with the best of them.
But comics hold a special place for me. They are my weekly bit of epic joy.
Anyways what is your first or favorite comic?

I now want to know more about the conic you cant remember the name of.
first fought. it was pretty good actually. She held her own before all the ninja training and such came along.
Kabuki had good art but I couldn't get into the story too much.
Jeph Loeb has written some really good batman stories. The Long Halloween is really good. It is a shame his run on the Hulk has been utter and complete crap.

Haha, I wish I could remember it. Watch there be one die hard fan of that series who just pounces on this thread. "Shrooms for eyes, enslaved, hot general becomes nomadic queen - oh shit yeah, that's blah blah bloo".
I found the Kabuki story line very intriguing at first, like a quieter "Kill Bill" but by issue 6 I was out of it. We3 saved me though, and I eventually saw the light and got into Scott Pilgrim on the side.
Yeah, what's up with Jeph Loeb? I think the last good story I read by him was Catwoman: When in Rome and then it was just craaaaap. I thought I heard his son passed away three years ago, maybe his son's passing has really affected him? I dunno. It'd be great to see him come back with some good stuff again. He was very talented.
(sorry, I could fill up a solid day just talking comics - I lub them :) )

in another note I need to not distractedly reply to posts while at work. I saw your response and it reproduced my previous one in the email. There was some cursing here. Sailors were offended.
I have not gotten into Scott Pilgrim as of yet. I have not picked it up and read it so it has not had a chance yet. The manga look to some of the collections I have seen kind of kept me at bay. AAt some point I will check it out.
Now there is a real test. What are your thoughts on Astro City? Lee has used this question as a test to see if someone has a soul.
